Desktop-Preserving OS Features

Windows Timeline Restores Users' Desktop Organization

Anyone who works on the same computer everyday knows the banal frustration of having to reorganize one's desktop layout every morning when they power up their device, and Windows Timeline is a new feature for Microsoft's OS that removes that daily pain. The feature automatically tracks how users had their various apps organized to make it easier to return to a given project.

As they name suggests, Windows Timeline is about tracking usage histories. For example, imagine a user had been working on a design for a marketing campaign during the morning, and then spent the afternoon planning a presentation about that design for the rest of her team. Each of those two projects likely had a different group of apps organized in a different way on her desktop. With Timeline, that user can search through her history over time and quickly restore either these layouts at will.
